Senior Mary Arnold prepares to return a volley.

How long have you been playing tennis?
I have been playing since I was 3. I have played for about 5 years on an organized team. I played one year at Advantage and I have played for all of my 4 years here at Reitz.

What does it feel like moving from #2 Varsity doubles to #1 Varsity singles from last season?
We lost all of our varsity team. It definitely put a lot of pressure on me, being the only Senior. It has put me in a position where I have to work extremely hard and push past my limits. It is also very humbling to me.

Do you plan on playing tennis after high school?
Actually, yes I do. I am planning on playing at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. I really love the campus there as well as the team. The University also offers great academic rigor.

Do you play tennis outside of Reitz?
I play at Advantage Court and Fitness and USTA, which are the outdoor tournaments that happen around Evansville. I also play with my dad a lot. He has always been my number one trainer, in addition to the several other personal trainers I’ve had outside of school as well.

Are there any tennis players that you look up to?
There is a new young tennis player who I really admire. Her name is Melanie Oudin, she’s only 18. She plays with the best of them and she’s not afraid of a challenge. I love how she never backs down and works so hard as such a young age.
