Art students recognized for talent

The month-long Evansville Museum’s 47th Annual High School Art Show was held from March 18 through April 18, 2010.

The following Reitz students had works of art featured in the show:

Adam Rakestraw, senior- Painting
Grant Adcock, senior- Painting
Megan Weissmann, junior- Painting
Kelly Brown, junior- Sculpture
Lauren Brown, sophomore- Drawing

At the show, visitors and sponsors are given the chance to judge and purchase the displayed works.

The following students were awarded for their work:

Adam Rakestraw, senior- Painting- Winner of the “Myron & Janis Craig Merit Award”- $50
Grant Adcock, senior- Painting- Winner of the “Myron & Janis Craig Merit Award”- $50
Megan Weissmann, junior- Painting- Winner of the “Evaline Karges Interiors Merit Award”- $50
Kelly Brown, junior- Sculpture- Winner of the “Myron & Janis Craig Art Merit Award”- $50
Lauren Brown, sophomore- Drawing- Winner of the “Myron & Janis Craig Art Merit Award”- $50
Another art show was held just that show.

The Mead Johnson Nutritionals and the Reitz Attendance District 16th Annual “Fine Arts Explosion” was held from March 9 to March 11, 2010, in the lobby of Mead Johnson.
The following Reitz students received awards for works of art featured in the show:

Two-Dimensional Art:
1st place: Ben Braker, sophomore-$75- Drawing- “Self-Portrait”
2nd place: Lauren Brown, sophomore- $50- Drawing- “Behind The Smile”
Honorable Mention: Angela Sturgis, senior- $25- Drawing- “Old Man”
1st place: Taylor Ling, junior- $75- “9-11”
2nd place: Kenneth DeMoss, senior- $50- “Gregorian Wednesday”
Honorable Mention: Kelly Brown, junior- $25- “Owl-Cola”

The PTA Reflections Winner for 2009-2010 was Alex Hellenberg, senior. He received an award of Interpretation in the Music category. His entry will be judged for the National PTA Convention in June in Memphis, Tennessee. Zach Montgomery, junior, received an Award of Excellence in the Photography category.
