Earle Is More Than Just Multiple Extracurriculars
Nov 23rd, 2009 | By admin | Category: FeatureMeet Jessie Earle. She’s the blonde junior with eyes that change colors between green, blue and sometimes gray. You may know her as the girl who participates in mostly, well… everything, but what you don’t know is why she does these things or how incredibly balanced she is.
1. What activities are you involved in, in and out of school?
I’m involved in different church groups, Spanish club, student council, band, golf, soccer, lacrosse, and dance.
2. Why did you get involved in so many things?
When I was little, my parents signed me up for all kinds of things. I got used to being involved and now I love the things I’m in. I keep myself busy.
3. What do you get out of doing these activities?
I’ve made a ton of friends through them, they keep me in shape, it gives me something to work for, but mostly, I just have fun and enjoy them.
4. Do people ever think that you’re insane for participating in so many things?
Yes. Most people think I’m doing too much, and maybe I am. The way I see it, I’m choosing to participate in all of this for a reason, and it’s worth every minute.
5. Is there any one activity that you favor?
Soccer’s probably my favorite sport, but I can’t imagine giving up anything because I love it all so much.
6. How do you balance school and extracurriculars?
It’s hard. I’m in a lot of advanced courses and homework does pile up if I’m not careful. My grades come first, so I make sure that they’re good.
7. How do you manage to have a personal life?
It gets hard sometimes. One spring I went weeks without seeing all of my friends because I had three practices and I didn’t have time for anything else. Luckily, everyone’s supportive and understanding.
8. Who is your inspiration or who do you look up to?
My family and friends mean the world to me, so they’re my inspiration for most things. I just try to be the person that they and God would be proud of.
9. Are the activities that you do, will they transfer to college?
No, I’m quitting all of my sports when I enter college. I’ll still be involved with the church, and I might join a few clubs once I get used to my workload, but for freshman year, I’ll take it easy.
10. Where would you like to go to college?
I’ve always wanted to go to Vanderbuilt. It’s a stretch for undergrad, but I’m looking at University of Evansville for my first four years and then hopefully I’ll finish my education as a Vandy girl.
11. What do you plan on majoring in?
I want to become a biochemistry major at UE, and then eventually into biomedical research dealing with cancer.
12. Why those fields?
I really want to find a cure for cancer, and I know it sounds far-fetched, but even if I don’t cure it by myself, if I can change one thing, it’ll be worth it.
13. Do you have a favorite band, artist, or music genre?
It really depends on my mood. I’ll listen to anything from country to hardcore.
14. What is the last book that you read?
The Catcher in the Rye.
15. Why did you last read it?
It’s for my English class. I don’t have time to read outside of school anymore.
16. What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a 2001 pink and black Eclipse with a body kit. Her name is Roxy, and she’s hard to miss.
17. What do you like to do with friends?
I like watching movies, playing games, going to Vertical Xcape and school events. It really doesn’t matter- we always have fun.
18. What is your most embarrassing moment?
In the 8th grade I did the school talent show where I did a tap dance. Someone poured flour on the floor so when I went to dance, my metal shoes slipped and I kept tripping.
19. Of all the activities you participate in, what is the hardest you do?
Golf is the hardest, because it requires so much focus.
20. What was your first job?
I refereed youth soccer but my first official job was a lifeguard at Burdette.
21.How do you plan to keep yourself busy this summer?
I’ll be a lifeguard again, I’ll be working out and hopefully going to a few camps for soccer, church, and SLI, which is a leadership camp for student council.
