If you’re interested in science, then you’ve probably done a few science fairs in your school career. In elementary school, it’s all about making the volcanoes, but high school gets a little more complex. This year Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Hartman’s advanced chemistry classes competed in the 59th annual Pott Foundation Tri-State Science and Engineering Fair for a class grade. This was the third year that USI has hosted the science fair. The science fair had a total of over 465 exhibits from area middle and high schools.
Ever wish you could have a robot do a chore or task for you? Well that’s exactly what Brian Thompson, Ben Balbach, Justin Steinback, Tom Grimes, Andrew Miller, Jamie Heard, and Jared Welden are trying to do.
Reitz High School has always been consistent about keeping traditions alive and well. And even though this upcoming football season will be a change of coaches, the traditions are going to stay true to the west side, through and through.
Mr. Tony Lewis, brother to the well known math teacher at Reitz, Mr. Tege Lewis, will be the new coach for the 2008 season and many more to come. However, Lewis isn’t new to the west side. In ’92, Lewis came to Reitz as a coach for girls’ softball and track. He was even an assistant coach for the football team for 10 years. But what is it about Reitz that made him want to come back?

For juniors and seniors, prom is the ultimate end of the year dance. It’s a night for fun, friends, and excitement. But it usually turns out to be a night of scandal and tears. By following these simple rules, your prom night will be one to remember for the better, not for the worse.
The 45th Annual High School Art Show was held this year at the Evansville Museum. Students from high schools all over Evansville, along with Castle, Princeton, Tecumseh, Mount Vernon, North Posey, and Wood Memorial entered their work in the show. Although it is not an easy show to make, a few of our very own Reitz students made it in and brought back some awards. Three lucky students were awarded the Myron and Janis Craig Merit Award of fifty dollars. Joe Price and Drake Fisher won for their self-portraits, and Andrea Niemeier won for her mixed media sculpture. Corey Greenfield got third place for Best of Mixed Media and a prize of fifty dollars for his Acrylic and Magazine Collage. Congrats to all our winners and all the other artists that made it into the show. If you’re into art and would like to check out the exhibits, you still have time. The art work will be on display until April 27 at the Evansville Museum downtown.
The Evansville museum has more to offer than you’d think. Of course there’s the normal things historians would love. For the war junkies, there are models of ships, uniforms, old pictures, different things they used, and a guy with a funny voice that tells you about it. Realistic scenes, models, and tools of the old times are shown for toy stores, dentist offices, a kitchen and parlor, glass and china shop, a funeral, and pioneer displays, all located on the first floor.
Take a listen to the sound of today’s punk rock bands. Some may say that punk is dead or others may say that punk rock is alive and kickin’. In my honest opinion, I can’t say that I agree nor disagree that it has fallen or risen, but just that is has escaped something true. On one recent account I heard this statement from a friend, “Punk is leaving us, man. I remember how true it was and how true the fans used to be. It ain’t nothing like it was.”
