The History Of The Dynasty

If you are unfamiliar with the title “Dynasty” it is
referring to the highly anticipated athletic talents
of the class of 2008. Specifically a group of
football players who started their brotherly bond as
far back as when they first began playing the game.
The west side’s Evansville Junior Football League is
where the majority of our boys learned to love
football. From there they moved on to play Reitz Cub,
and history began.
“Playing cub in the eighth grade we went undefeated
and we realized we were the best.” says senior Moose
Campbell, ” But the moment that really made people
notice what potential we had was freshman year when we
beat Heritage Hills 34-0. That year, Heritage Hills
was ranked number one in state and they were
undefeated, until they faced us” continued Campbell.
So how exactly did the title Dynasty come about?
“Its wasn’t specifically one person who came up with
it, it kind of just happened,” says senior Josh
Winiger, “it’s something we always joked around
about, then one day Hobbs (Houston Hobbs, senior)
threw up the Dynasty and it just kind of stuck,” says
Campbell.
“We’ve been playing together a long time, some of us
since kindergarden. Now we’re to the point where we
almost know what each other is thinking. That’s why
we work together so well on the field.” says senior
Josh Winiger.
To know each other so well, a team needs bonding.
This particular bond is one that’s been building for
many years, making them different from other teams.
“I think we do have a special bond. We keep each
other close, and we’re always together on the
weekends, keeping each other out of trouble,”
explains Winiger.
One aspect of a bond, is trust. Trust means a lot to
a team when it comes down to working together to win
the game.
“There’s definitely a lot of trust between us. We
know that each one of us is going to do the best they
can no matter who we play and how important the game
is. No one wants to let the team down.” says senior
Paul McIntosh
The Dynasty is not just something the Reitz staff and
students are aware of, its something that the entire
community recognizes.
“They all believe in us and have faith in us that
we’ll go all the way this year.” comments Winiger.
Community support can make a huge difference in the
attitude and performance of the team. And with other
teams trying to put down the Dynasty, Panther pride
can really keep the energy going.
” A lot of other teams hate on us because of our
always positive attitude. Some people say we’re
cocky, but really, its confidence.” continues
Campbell, “it’s good to have so much support behind
us.”
The definition of dynasty is a powerful group or
family that maintains its position for a considerable
amount of time. But on the hill it’s simply known
as…
“The Class of ‘08, enough said.”
