Retro fashion is the new way to express yourself
Fashion is all about retro styles this spring; remember those bell-bottom jeans from the ’70s? How about leg warmers from the ’80s? Or let’s go far back into time into the ’20s when Audrey Hepburn made waves with the skinny black jean. All of those items are coming back into style. They can be seen everywhere, from runways, to celebrities, filling shops, boutiques and even genuine vintage pieces are being resurrect from lofts and garages! Only now fashion is “retro” dressing like the nineties as hints of bright neon colors start to hit our closest and rave scene prints surface to our dresser drawers.
The look is being cleverly introduced into our fashion scene, having been in our current must haves. Realizing leggings and footless tights are here to stay; the spring season sees the neon footless tights and leggings, a changed from our safe black stage. Girls are adding headbands to their wardrobe, from plastic, to elastic to ribbon to put in their hair. “I think headbands are cool. They are cheap enough to buy cutes ones but amazing enough to wear with anything.” says a sophomore. Even though these trends seem to appear on girls, guys are always sporting their own looks. In the 60’s and 70’s guys would wear tighter more flared legged jeans, just like students are our school are beginning to wear. Also, the whole ’60s Mod look is very ‘in’ right now, with the rounded neck, black and white striped top, paired with black skinny jeans. Bell-bottoms are now flared legs and the colors of lime green, yellow, pink, orange and black are found in prints inspired by the 60’s. From paisley print bags, to flower power, you see the hippy generation inspiring a new but old fashion trend among many of us, granted the tones of the colors are a bit more sophisticated. Whatever the look you’re going for however, you are sure to look very chic and sophisticated in your Vintage finds. Even converses have come back in style in the last few years, as well as extravagant up dos and big loud jewelry. Even though we think this is new, fashion has been forever repeating itself. Nothing is ever new from colors, patterns, and everything involved in a style are being redone to create something “new”. Retro is one style that blends well with other looks. Certain things of vintage clothing can be the perfect complement to a younger and modish look. Your jewelry from the past will click with your latest and greatest outfit. A splash of polka dots, crazy lines, strange patterns of silly designs, will add a vintage flair to your ensemble. So if your into the new fashion statement, or Audrey Hepburn skinny black jeans, you are still repeating history in your closet.
